Hoy, más que cuarenta años después del ‘Encuentro de Artistas del Cono Sur´, el Cono Sur permanece como foco para muralistas de la región. En el 2013, el graffiti muralista chileno Inti, uno de los artistas de la región escogido para el selectivo “Atlante Mundial de Arte Callejero y Graffiti”, dá el ´Cono Sur´ como un tema principal de su arte.

 

Today, more than forty years after the 1972 “Meeting of Visual Artists of the Southern Cone”, the ´Southern Cone´ remains a focus for mural painters in the region.  In 2013 the Chilean graffiti muralist Inti, one of the artists from the region chosen for the selective World Atlas of Street Art and Graffiti, gives the ´Southern Cone´as a principal theme of his art.

De los chilenos se contó con el ideólogo José Balmes, la pintora independiente vanguardista Roser Bru y miembros de los grupos de muralistas comunistas, las Brigadas Ramona Parra (BRP) como Luz Donoso y Alejandro ´Mono´ Gónzalez.

La frase ´Cono Sur´ ha sido usado para unir y fortalecer el desarrollo del arte progresivo dirigido a las masas desde el año 1972 cuando, en el Chile de Salvador Allende, el “Encuentro de Artistas del Cono Sur” juntó exponentes destacados desde Argentina, Uruguay y Chile en búsqueda de un arte público revolucionario como ya a la época se practicaba en Cuba.

 The phrase ´Southern Cone´ has been used to bring together and strengthen the development of progressive art aimed at a  mass audience since 1972 when,  in Salvador Allende´s Chile, the “Meeting of Visual Artists of the Southern Cone” brought together leading exponents of public art from Argentina, Uruguay and Chile in the pursuit of revolutionary public art in the vein of that then already established in Cuba.

Por razones geográficas los muralistas  y colectivos argentinos, chilenos, paraguayos y uruguayos trabajan juntos cada vez más. Notablemente, los “Encuentros del Arte Público y Muralismo” en Godoy Cruz, Mendoza, Argentina occidental, han desde años unidos muralistas de toda Argentina, de Chile y del Paraguay.

 For geographical reasons Argentine, Chilean, Paraguayan and Uruguayan  muralists and collectives increasingly work together. Notably the “Meetings of Public Art and Muralism” in Godoy Cruz, Mendoza, western Argentina,  have for several years brought together muralists from all over Argentina, from Chile, and from Paraguay.
